Innovating Together – A Vanguard Partnership

Your Role in Evolving Mobile Networks

Our customers encompass Mobile Network Operators, Tower Companies, and mobile technology providers. However, they are not the only stakeholders involved. Building more sustainable mobile networks is a collaborative effort, where no one is an outsider.

As citizens, you have a voice in shaping publicly visible infrastructure, whether it’s a new street, a building, or a mobile network tower. Public administration acts as the crucial bridge between citizens and operators within municipalities. Delivering reliable mobile network coverage requires the combined efforts of the state, public administration, citizens, operators, tower companies, and many others.

2023 Bechtolsheim Germany, Vantage Towers

Covering 10 countries in Europe, Vantage Towers built the Germany’s first Ecopol 30 meter tower in Bechtolsheim, Rheinland-Pfalz in 2023. Ecopol fits seamlessly into  Vantage Towers’ Built-to-Suit (BTS) offerings, aligning with the core principles of sustainability and multitenancy. In Bechtolsheim, ordinary towers had issues to get building permission, but Ecopol wooden structured tower was welcome, with unforgettable tower party!

“The wooden structured tower has made even critics change their minds. I am pleased that we have found this solution for mobile phone coverage in Bechtolsheim together with Vantage Towers. Perhaps we will also become a role model for how the expansion of mobile communications in rural areas can succeed.”

Dieter Mann, Mayor of Bechtolsheim

“With the Ecopol tower, Bechtolsheim has chosen the future. A future in which telecommunication infrastructure is sustainable and visually appealing at the same time. We are very pleased that we have successfully realised this project, which is unique in Germany so far, together with Ecotelligent and would like to thank the mayor and local council of the municipality of Bechtolsheim for the constructive dialogue. Together we have achieved a great result and sent an important signal for sustainable mobile phone expansion in Germany.”

2024 Gradići Croatia, Markoja

Markoja as a leading Croatian provider of network and infrastructure solutions for fixed and mobile communications, has built multiple wooden structured Ecopol 40 meter towers in Croatia and more different products to come.

In 2024 Gradići, Hrvatski Telekom was the first operator to install the antennas and active equipment. Link to press release here. In General, Markoja has a 5E strategy where wooden structured products fit perfectly and building permissions are easy to get.

“We are proud that Hrvatski Telekom, as the first national operator, recognized the value of our Ecopol and installed its antennas on this innovative communication tower, thereby opening a new chapter in the development of sustainable telecommunications infrastructure in Croatia.”

Boris Markoja, Director Markoja

“The Ecopol project represents an innovative step towards sustainable infrastructure, important for the development of the 5G network in Croatia. Wooden telecommunications towers, such as Ecopol in Gradići, reduce CO₂ emissions by half compared to traditional steel towers and provide long-lasting durability and more security for cables integrated within the structure. Recyclable materials and innovative fire-resistant wooden elements make it applicable in natural and tourist areas that require aesthetic and environmental compliance.”

2021 Milan Italy, INWIT

INWIT built the first wooden structured Ecopol 40 meter tower in Italy, Milan, in August 2021. They also won a SMAU 2022 Innovation Award. Sustainability is an integral part of INWIT’s business strategies.

“In view of an increasingly connected future, towers will proliferate, supporting telecommunications operators. We therefore have the task of thinking about alternative materials that can reduce environmental impacts throughout the life cycle of the infrastructure and that are increasingly harmonious with the landscape and urban decor. We are convinced that laminated wood can be an excellent choice in this direction, to create an increasingly connected, sustainable and circular environment.”

Giovanni Ferico, CEO INWIT

“INWIT realized its first woodden tower, an innovative infrastructure consisting in laminated wood, material alternative to steel, to serve mobile telephony . 40 meters high, with 4 ballrooms to position antennas and radio bridges of the hosted managers, the tower is completely made of sustainable and circular material, in line with the objectives of the Sustainability Plan. The tower, located along the motorway A51 Tangenziale Est of Milan in the territory of the municipality of Brugherio (MB), is adjacent to the Park East of the quarries and guarantees the coverage of the cellular network of the area, also ensuring emergency telephone services, of particular importance for motorway traffic. The choice of this type of material, which is well characterized from the point of view of sustainability, is linked to its quality of being recycled and reused as well as to its low carbon footprint.

With this intervention, INWIT pursues two functional objectives for these areas: The redevelopment of the Park territory as an ecological corridor, and the best possible environmental and landscape integration of the infrastructure. The wooden structured pole replaces the previous steel pole, which will be dismantled and recovered. The solution can represent an innovative and sustainable standard, both for future new projects and for the replacement of existing classical plants, of previous conception, as was the case for Brugherio.”
